Midsommar (Swedish Midsummer) marks the longest day in the Swedish summer and Midsummer’s Eve is celebrated by Swedes all over the country. Find out more about wonderful traditions of the day on the blog here.

Celebrate your very own Midsommar with family and friends. Indulge in delicious strawberries and cream and style these treats with a circle of flowers reminiscent of a floral wreath. Add a dose of love with some toothpick flags, using the fun stickers from a Crafting DIY Sticker Book.

To create your own Swedish smorgasbord, we’ve included two recipes to get you started. Enjoy!

HERRINGS IN MUSTARD

INGREDIENTS

• 2 Tbsp mustard
• 2 Tbsp white vinegar
• 4 Tbsp olive oil
• 2 Tbsp chopped fresh dill
• 225 g (8 oz) herring in wine sauce
• Pinch of white pepper

METHOD

1. Rinse the herring with cold water then place in a glass jar.

2. Mix the mustard and oil together. Then add the vinegar, dill and pinch of pepper.

3. Pour the mixture over the herring and leave to marinate in the fridge for at least an hour before serving.

Serve with boiled potatoes, chives, sour cream, finely chopped red onion and Swedish crispbread.

Follow with deliciously fresh, strawberries and cream.

STRAWBERRIES & CREAM

• Fresh strawberries
• Pouring cream*

METHOD

1. Rinse strawberries and place in a bowl.

2. Whip cream until peaks form. Place in a bowl and serve with strawberries.

*If you prefer a sweeter cream, you can add a touch of icing sugar.

This week we’re talking about nourishing your mind and soul – which is something I believe is just as important as physical health. Thank you all for sharing your tips on sleeping well. Krissy, they are wonderful points you’ve spoken about and Laura, I also love clean bed sheets! I’ve heard lavender oil is a wonderful aid for sleep too – a friend of mine swears by using a few drops when she showers each night to help unwind.

It’s so important to nurture your mind and soul. I think an essential part of feeling a sense of balance is being aware of how stress affects you. A little stress can be a good motivator, but too much can work to undo feelings of happiness and wellbeing.

Whenever I feel myself start to get stressed or anxious I make the decision to stop for a moment and think about why I’m feeling that way. If I understand what makes me feel stressed then I can look at the bigger picture and (most of the time!) let go of those feelings. Sometimes this is easier said than done but it’s so worth considering when you feel yourself getting worked up.

In moments of stress, I think it’s absolutely worth thinking about what helps you relax and feel calm and happy.

What makes you feel renewed mentally and recharges your soul and mind?

Yoga helps me do this by letting me be still with my thoughts, but I also find spending time in nature helps too. I love going for walks along the beach – when I get home I always always feel peaceful and refreshed. Meditation is a wonderful habit but it can also be so lovely to simply sit in a park and be aware of everything around you. I find it’s also best to leave your phone at home! Otherwise you can end up spending all that time constantly checking emails or responding to calls.

The other day I was driving and a tram went past me - I noticed that everyone on the tram had their heads down looking, most likely, at their phones or other technology.  This isn’t always the case of course, but it struck me that we can get so caught up in everything that’s happening online that we forget to just look out the window. Sometimes it can be so beneficial to just let your mind and soul breathe without digital distractions.

I’m absolutely loving reading all your responses each week. Health is such an important part of life, and it’s so wonderful to feel part of a team and share ideas together. I think your ‘10 minute rule’ is a great one Sissa. Looking at exercise as something that is just part of your everyday is so positive – then it doesn’t become a chore or a task on a To Do list.

Kirst, thanks for sharing! I was so excited to read your comment and so so happy that you’re feeling proud of yourself. Sometimes the first step is the hardest and it’s so wonderful you’ve taken on that challenge and committed to your happiness by introducing consistent exercise into your everyday.

This week we’re looking at sleep – which, I think, can be easy to overlook with busy lifestyles, priorities and changing routines. I know how wonderful I feel when I have a great sleep – waking refreshed and recharged, with lots of energy and feeling ready to take on the day.

On the other hand, with two young children, I know how it feels when I don’t get enough sleep. There are always things you can do to improve sleep. Reducing your caffeine and alcohol intake is one of them – which can be hard for me, because I love love love coffee and enjoy a glass of red wine with dinner. I do try though not to have caffeine after 3pm and stick to herbal teas instead.

What changes can you make to improve the quality and amount of sleep you get each night?

I need to get better at winding down by not checking emails late at night and just reading a book or taking time to relax before going to bed. I can get so excited about new designs at work and I’m constantly thinking of new ideas that it’s hard to switch off, but I know it always takes me longer to fall asleep if I’m up on my laptop right before bed. One of my favourite things to do is to write in my Gratitude Journal each night. I also have such a big pile of books (I can’t help but keep adding to it - books are something I absolutely love) so I’m going to take this opportunity to settle down each night, write down what I'm thankful for and read a book for half an hour.

The end of this financial year is suddenly days away. Don’t get caught out this time with tax related stress and mountains of financial year paperwork. Here is our first tip to help you organise, action and plan with ease...

SET UP THE RIGHT SYSTEMS

Feeling organised when tax time rolls around is all about investing in systems that actually work. Sometimes these systems can be harder to create than they seem. We all need help sometimes, so don’t be afraid to ask for the help that you need and deserve.

DID YOU KNOW?

• 80% of all papers that are filed are never looked at again.
• 80% of clutter is the result of disorganisation and not a lack of space.
• The average time to retrieve and re-file a paper document is 10 minutes.
• An average of 3% of documents are lost or misfiled, and have to be recovered at an alarming cost of $120 per document.
• A person who works with a "messy" or cluttered desk spends, on average, 1 1/2 hours per day looking for things or being distracted by things.

The facts really do speak for themselves; the cost of disorganisation is huge. Instead of losing valuable time, money and energy on pointless exercises, take the time now to seek advice on how to create a system now that will make doing your tax next year so much easier.

We’ve talked about the importance of setting up the right systems so that next year isn’t an organisational nightmare. Storing receipts in a shoebox is not an effective system nor an efficient use of your time. Likewise, storing all your tax related documents in one large file labelled TAX is only going to cause you more stress and waste more of your time when you finally get around to forcing yourself to sort through it.

If you’re creating your personal tax filing system at home, follow these steps to ensure the system you create is worthwhile.

STEP ONE

Separate your receipts from your paperwork. These two items should be organised and stored separately.

STEP TWO

Choose what type of file your paperwork is going to live in and colour code your categories. Standard Ring Binders are a great option, as are Lever Arch Binders, depending on how much paperwork you have. Designate a colour for work related expenses (these could include car and travel expenses), another colour for invoices, another for investments, another for medical and health expenses and so on. Using colour to customise your paperwork leads to better information retention, which means you’ll retrieve information and documents quicker. They also look gorgeous and work to enhance your personal style and inspire you daily.

STEP THREE

Once you’ve created your filing system, organise your paperwork inside. Divide documents into a system that works for you – usually this is by date where paperwork (such as car expenses) can be organised with the most recent expense at the top. You could also organise paper by different types of outgoings. For example, car servicing, petrol expenses, registration. Decide what works best for you. If you’re unsure, stick to a system organised by date. If you play around with different categories, you run the risk of forgetting where you’ve placed a particular document.

STEP FOUR

Invest in a system for your receipts. Use a Receipts Book or a Receipts Organiser and categorise these again into work related expenses, study expenses, personal expenses and any others you might have. Use separate Receipts Book for each grouping, or use the tabs in your Receipts Organiser to section them for you. When tax time rolls around, you’ll know exactly how much you can claim for each category which means you’ll maximise your tax return.

These simple tips can save you so much time and money. As soon as you receive a tax or financial related document, file it in its appropriate place and stop last minute searching and pointless stress. Look forward to that peace of mind now and when tax time rolls around again next financial year.

Financial paperwork and tax related tasks will never seem inviting. Like most things though, the hardest part is getting started. Once you’re on your way, tax time can be an illuminating experience where you’re able to recognise where your money is being spent and how it could be saved.

EAT THAT FROG

There is an old saying; ‘If the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you can go through the rest of the day with the satisfaction of knowing that that is probably the worst thing that is going to happen to you all day long.’ This saying has been turned into a highly successful book on productivity, called ‘Eat That Frog’ by Brian Tracy.

The idea behind this saying is a great one. If you start your day by committing to doing the most important and most difficult task on your to do list, the rest of the day will seem so easy. If you put it off, you spend the day procrastinating and trying to push the knowledge that you should be doing something else from your mind. As a result, you’re never able to give your full focus or energy to one task which means it takes you twice as long and with twice as much stress to achieve something.

It’s a simple, yet incredibly powerful habit to create, and one that will help you with your financial year paperwork and tax related stresses. Instead of putting off that one task that will make your tax so much simpler and smoother, just eat that frog and move on to better (and more fun) things.

It might be collecting all your receipts from the past year, it could be sorting your receipts into categories or going through bank statements for interest accrued. Whatever it is, just do it. You’ll feel so much better and you’ll tackle every other task with efficiency and positivity.

Now is the time to set all your finances and paperwork in order. Imagine the relief you’ll feel knowing all important paperwork is organised and you’re in control should anything unexpected arise. Once you’ve set up your tax filing system, it’s time to look at any other paperwork that is slowing down your mental capacity and productivity potential.

SUPERANNUATION

Superannuation is something many of us overlook or put to the side to tackle other important jobs. If you have your super spread out across different funds, now is the time to transfer all your super to one main account. Not only will you feel more organised knowing it is all in the one spot, but you’ll save money by removing those unnecessary costs to keep different accounts.

POINTS BALANCES

We’re all members of one club or another, it might be a department store card, frequent flyers or simply a coffee card for your local cafe. Whatever it is, don’t let your well deserved rewards go unused.

Remove all your points cards from your wallets and create a list either on paper or on your computer that details the card, its points balance and the associated value. For example, you might have a department store card that has accumulated 500 points that can then buy your $100 worth of rewards.

Once you’ve counted up your relevant points, you might realise you’re that much closer to a holiday or you’ve got a few free coffees waiting to be used. These small tasks can be achieved just by setting yourself half an hour a day to organise them. The end of the financial year is the perfect time. Set yourself up to achieve in the new financial year by starting it organised and allow yourself the freedom to do what you love.

If the financial year just gone has left you feeling a little disorganised in the finances department, now is the time to set a budget and stick to it. As you are doing your tax and looking back on the last 12 months, make a note of the big expenses, and of places where you could have saved money from unnecessary costs or disorganisation.

For example, do you forget to pay bills on time and end up incurring late fees because you don’t have a system in place for incoming paperwork? Is that coffee addiction costing you more than it should; would you save money by making coffee at home or even buying a coffee machine?

The new financial year is about to begin, so don’t let these same costs occur. Learn from your mistakes and save yourself the money and stress.

STEP ONE

STEP TWO

Set yourself a new budget that takes into account the past year’s costs and earnings. The Budget Book is a fantastic tool to help you recognise where your money is being spent, how you can save and how to set realistic financial goals. It works hand in hand with the Receipts Book. When you make a purchase, record the details and safely file the receipt behind.

STEP THREE

Set Goals: Set yourself monthly earnings, expenses and savings goals and be realistic. Estimate these goals based on the results from the year just passed. Use the Budget Book to track your weekly expenses and provide a monthly summary that offers you insight into habits that need to be changed and an understanding of your incoming and outgoing figures.

STEP FOUR

Plan: Most of the time we know when certain costs are going to take place, for example rent, bills, mortgage payments, credit card payments etc. Plan your budget so that you take into account these dates and are always able to pay off costs whilst leaving enough for some to go into a savings account and some to be spent on everyday life.

STEP FIVE

Enjoy. Noone likes having to miss out on wonderful experiences and special moments because we haven’t budgeted well enough to afford it. Save yourself the disappointment and make a commitment to stick to your budget plan. When next financial year rolls around you’ll feel so proud of yourself and so excited at what you’ve been able to achieve.

I’m a great believer in being active every day. Whether that is going for a walk or practising yoga in the morning. We all lead busy lives, but it’s important to make time for exercise. I’ve spoken before about my love for yoga and long walks. Exercising can be the perfect time to sort through information from your day – I often find my favourite design ideas come to me while walking along the beach near my home.

We all know exercise has so many health benefits – it boosts energy levels, improves sleep, reduces stress and increases fitness. Exercise releases endorphins too – so it literally makes you feel good and look great because you glow with confidence too. I just can’t think of any reasons not to exercise!

This year the prestigious European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award, has been awarded to Harpa, the new Concert Hall and Conference Centre in Rekjavik, Iceland.

Harpa was created through a collaboration between Henning Larsen Architects, Batteríið Architects and Studio Olafur Eliasson. We’re loving the modern and transformative design – the stunning glass façade creating playful light and beautiful reflections both inside and out is simply magical.

Choosing whether to print your photos with a gloss or matte finish comes down to personal preference. At kikki.K, we like to use matte photos because when touching them or using them in DIY projects, fingerprints are less likely to show up.

2. Take your Twine and wrap this around your gift each way, then sticky tape it to the bottom of your gift so it lies flat.

3. Take one of the stickers from your DIY Sticker Book and pop this over the Twine on one side – this will be the front of your gift.

4. Add your cupcake shape from your Mini Card Cutouts by folding the bottom slightly and slipping this under your Twine. Sticky tape the folded edge down so that it stands up like in the photo above.

I’m so excited to begin this month’s focus on Health. I love the feeling that fitness and health brings - feeling strong and energised. Health is such an important factor in every person’s life, and of course, to each person’s happiness. If you’re healthier, you feel happier, and vice versa. The benefits of investing in a healthy and nutritious diet are huge – you feel better, your mood is improved, you sleep better, you have more energy and your risk of illness is reduced, and all of these factors influence your everyday - your relationships, your work, your happiness.

I love this quote by Edward Stanley – ‘Those who think they have no time for healthy eating will sooner or later have to find time for illness.’

It’s so true! I’ve never been one to worry about body weight. What’s important to me is feeling good, feeling energised and always enjoying what I eat. I hate the thought of eating something because I feel like I have to. For me, it’s about balance, about having fun, savouring each mouthful and buying fresh, organic produce. I enjoy treats – for me, it’s wine and cheese - but in moderation.

I am a self-proclaimed foodie. I love cooking and baking, especially with the kids. I love discovering a new delicious ingredient and trying out lots of different recipes for it. At the moment, I’m loving blue swimmer crab. I made a delicious blue swimmer crab tagliatelle the other night – yum!

I’m going to search through my favourite cookbooks for some simple, fresh and fun recipes to share with the kids. I think it’s so important to teach them the value of a healthy, balanced life from the beginning. It’s also never a bad thing to have easy and healthy recipes on hand to quickly whip up when you have little ones.

You don’t have to give up cooking what you love or cut entire food groups out. Feeling healthy and nutritious is about making sure you’re getting enough vegetables and fruit, and all the goodness you need, as well as satisfying yourself with little treats in moderation – like wine and cheese.

Materials You’ll Need:

• Blank Cards & Envelopes 5pk
• Mini Card Cutouts
• Adhesive Dots
• DIY Sticker Book Celebration
• Twine
• Stanley Knife
• Ruler
• Pencil

STEPS

1. Collect your materials. You can follow our design above or you can choose your own Mini Card Cutout and Sticker to suit the occasion.

2. Measure your rectangle window in the front of your card to a size that fits your Mini Card Cutout and with a lead Pencil, mark the straight lines to cut along. Then, making sure your card is unfolded so that you don’t cut through both sides, take your Stanley Knife and cut slowly and steadily along your marked lines. Once you’ve cut along all four sides, pop the card window out.

3. Take your Mini Card Cutout and line the top back area with Adhesive Dots. Stick this to the top of the window so it sits in the window.

4. String some Twine around the card and stick it to the back with a sweet Sticker.

5. Do the same at the front of the card. Depending on the occasion, stick your Twine to the front with a suitable gorgeous Sticker. We love this flag design and its cute message.

You’re done. Now simply write your message inside and gift to the recipient. So simple and so stylish.

I know the feeling when a small task suddenly becomes an overwhelming one – like storing those gifts in your study Krissy, and having the space turn into a place to store all sorts of things. I think it’s important at those times to break down the activity into small, achievable tasks and tick off each task separately. That way you feel like you’re getting through a To Do List and it’s much more motivating! How did you go reorganising the space?

This is the last week of focusing on our physical environment so I thought it would be wonderful to brainstorm simple, quick wins we can take with us into the future. Through chatting with Gretchen Rubin, the author The Happiness Project, at the beginning of the year, she mentioned one of the best organisation tips that seemed to resonate most with people was to make your bed every day. Such a simple task but so rewarding.

Little wins like this help to simplify your every day and create a happy environment that feels organised and inspiring – a space you want to spend time in. I spoke to a friend about this topic and he mentioned to me that he does the dishes every night before bed so that in the morning he wakes to a clean house and is instantly motivated to embrace the day. I love this simple action and its meaningful result.

What small changes can you make this week to simplify your life?

It might be keeping a household To Do List or Shopping List in one spot that everyone in the home can access. Maybe you’d like to plant a herb garden so you have all your favourites on hand when cooking, or it might be beginning little healthy habits like making the bed each day or sorting through mail, emails or your mobile inbox each day so you’re on top of all communications.

This week I’m going to start a habit to clear our shared spaces at home each night before going to bed. Whether it’s the dining table, lounge room or coffee table, replacing belongings to their original homes and freeing up this space means the whole family can benefit from the minimised clutter and use the space when needed.

Whether you’re a craft lover or new to DIY, these handy tips will help you style a page you love. A Scrapbook Album is the perfect canvas to capture travel memories, milestone events or even to use as a unique Guest Book for a special occasion.

Follow these steps to get started and find out just how easy it is to put together a beautiful page that reflects your personal style and unique memories.

Materials You’ll Need:

• Scrapbook Album Kit (which includes your Scrapbook Album, Mini Cutouts, Mini Envelopes and Printed Paper)
• Adhesive Dots
• Wooden Alphabet Stamp Set
• Photos and other memorabilia

STEPS

1. Gather all your materials in your crafting space. Choose a piece of printed paper from your kit to act as your matte paper which will sit beneath your photo.

2. Place this in the left centre of your right page next to the binding, then add your photo to the centre of this, like the photo above, using Adhesive Dots to stick it down.

3. Take your mini card shape and stick this in the top right hand corner slightly covering the photo and the printed paper.

4. Using your Adhesive Dots, add another mini card shape to the left hand side – we love this cute sign that says ‘Our Day’. The perfect choice for travel memories or simply daily journaling. Place your flag to frame your title at the base of the printed paper.

5. On the opposite page, add your memorabilia – we’ve used a Swedish envelope from a trip to Sweden, however you could choose tickets to an event or transport tickets, letters, cards or any memento you like. Place this in the centre with your Adhesive Dots.

6. Add in a mini envelope with a note from someone special or your own message detailing where and when your memento is from and why it’s special to you. We placed a mini card shape of a traditional Swedish Horse to frame our envelope as it worked with the travel theme. Choose one that reflects your theme.

7. The finishing touches – using your Wooden Alphabet Stamp Set, stamp the date of the photo onto the flag in black ink.

STEPS

1. Gather your materials and choose a piece of paper from your Square Printed Notepad that compliments your photo. We chose a black and white photo in order to balance out the bright colours of pink and red. Make sure your matte paper (printed paper) works well with your chosen photo.

2. Place your piece of paper in your Photo A Day Album at the top left hand side sticking it down with Adhesive Dots.

3. Take your photo and using your Adhesive Dots again, place this on the left hand side of your album covering half of your paper.

4. Add in a Mini Card Cutout to the right side along the edge of the paper. Choose one that fits your photo and colour theme. Take your 'When Stamp' from your Wooden Stamp Set and stamp this in white or pastel coloured ink on to your page below your printed paper.

5. The last step – simply write in the date the photo was taken with a White Gel Pen or Pastel Gel Pen inside the stamped flag. Gorgeous!

Although it’s only been one week since thinking about creating a happy home, I’ve loved having those thoughts at the top of my mind. Just having bright and happy flowers in my home puts a smile on my face every morning.

Jennifer I loved your comment about sending little adhesive notes in your children’s lunches. It’s these little things that brighten up each day and handwritten notes are so heartfelt and special. Just gorgeous.

I so believe that when things are tidier, things just seem to flow better Phoebe. Even the tiny things like sorting through a pile of magazines can bring a large sense of relief.

Having a bright, clean and inspiring workspace is something I find so important. It just makes sense to me that if the space you work in is organised, light and full of inspiring images or objects, then the work you do there will reflect this. You’ll be more organised and inspired, you’ll be more productive and the work you produce will be of a higher standard.

For me, working creatively, it’s essential to surround myself with things that allow me to think creatively. I have a gorgeous Vision Board that is filled with inspiring images and quotes. I have a bookcase I’ve organised by colour with books I love and look to often. I find colour is a great way to organise things – paperwork, books, notes. It always helps me and inspires me at the same time because it looks beautiful. There is a wonderful post on the qualities of different colours on the blog here. I’ve always loved white and the feeling of openness and freedom it brings, but every colour is unique and wonderful for its own reasons.

What are you going to do this week to create an inspiring workspace?

This week I’m going to give my computer desktop a little spring clean so that the feeling of organisation flows from my bookshelf to my paperwork to computer files. I love getting rid of clutter and the sense of relief it brings. This is my way of de-cluttering one aspect of my work life. While I’m doing it, I’m going to light a candle. I love the feeling of balance and calm candles give me. They’ll turn a not-so-fun task into an inspiring one.

Follow these easy steps to create a gorgeous paper pinwheel. A simple activity perfect for weekend crafternoons. Inspire little ones to think creatively and use your colourful paper pinwheels as party favours, to add to unique gift wrapping or simply to admire.

Materials You’ll Need:

• Square Printed Notepad
• Push Pins
• Glue
• Scissors or a Stanley Knife

STEPS

1. Choose two pieces of paper from your Square Printed Notepad and glue these together so that it becomes one piece of double-sided paper.

2. Using your Scissors or a Stanley Knife, cut straight lines from each corner towards the middle of your square. These shouldn’t meet, but should be a few cm’s away from each other like in the photo above, so that they form four even triangles.

3. Take one corner of your first triangle and simply curl it up towards the middle. Take the corner of the next triangle that is furthest away and do the same, curling it towards the middle. Hold these in place by pinning them together with a Push Pin.

4. Repeat this step with the other two triangles, pinning your four points together to make a pinwheel.

Now you have a gorgeous paper pinwheel – perfect for placing on a crafting Vision Board, adding to unique gift wrapping or giving to little ones or DIY lovers.

My home is a place that I absolutely love. Not only does it contain lots of memories, but it’s a space that brings me happiness because it reflects my personal style and is open and organised (most of the time!).

I think it’s so important to create a happy home. You should feel safe and inspired and it should be a place you love going home to after work. Gretchen Rubin, in her book ‘Happier At Home’, quotes these wonderful words by Carl Jung…

‘We need to project ourselves into the things around us. My self is not confined to my body. It extends to all things I have made and all the things around me. Without these things, I would not be myself.’

I love this quote. I absolutely absolutely believe in it – because I know when my home reflects me, when I know I’ve spent time and effort making it a place I love and my family loves, I feel happier. I recently met with a close friend for coffee and she told me essentially that she was feeling burdened by material possessions. I thought about this for a while and realised, for me, the key is ensuring I love everything in my home. If I don’t love something, it doesn’t enter my space. This way I never feel burdened and I always feel a sense of peace and beauty.

Does your home reflect you, your personal style and your values? Is it clean and clutter free? Is it beautiful and inspiring? Does the space flow? I think all these questions are important and I check in with them often myself. If you answered no to any of these or think you could improve some aspects, think about the following question:

What small changes can you make to create a happy home?

For me, while I do love my home and I feel it reflects my style, I would love to bring in more nature. This month and going forward I’m going to set a goal to buy fresh flowers for my home each week. I absolutely love the smell and look of fresh flowers so I’m already excited at the prospect of this.

Tools You’ll Need

• Cooking Thermometer
• Pastry Brush
• Baking Tray & Baking Paper
• Bowls, Measuring Cups and Spoons
• Saucepan

Ingredients

• 50g sweet yeast*
• 12 cups flour
• 150g butter (softened)
• 3 cups milk
• 1 large egg
• 1 ½ cups caster sugar
• 1 tablespoon cardamom
• ½ teaspoon salt

To roll…

• 25g butter
• 1 cup caster sugar

STEPS

1. Heat the milk in a saucepan to approximately 37°C, using your thermometer to make sure it doesn’t heat over. This is important – make sure your milk stays between 36-38°. Yeast is very sensitive to temperature - if you go over 40º, the yeast action starts to slow and if you go too high the yeast becomes inactive, the same if you stay too low. The perfect  temperature for yeast to activate is between 32-38°C.

2. In a bowl, mix your eggs, butter, yeast, sugar, salt and cardamom until smooth.

3. Add your milk and half of your flour (6 cups), and stir until smooth, then add in your remaining flour, mixing again until you form a smooth dough.

4. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough with your hands to aerate and develop the mix. Knead until the dough is lovely and smooth – about 5 minutes.

5. Put your dough into a large greased bowl, turning it over so that all sides are slightly greased, then cover with cling wrap or a clean tea towel and let rise for about 30 minutes.

6. Once your dough has just about doubled in size, remove your cling wrap and place your dough on your lightly floured working surface. Deflate any air pockets in the dough by punching your mix. Once you’ve kneaded out the pockets, you’re ready to make your buns!

7. Your mix should make about 20 buns. Taking sections of the dough, form your 20 round buns and place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Press down on them slightly. Cover again with a clean tea towel and let rise a second time for about 30 minutes. During this time preheat your oven to 200° C.

8. Once your 30 minutes is up, remove the tea towel and bake in the centre of your oven for about 8-10 minutes or until golden.

9. Let cool on a wire rack.

10. Once cool, melt your extra butter and brush your buns with it. Place your sugar in a bowl, and roll your buttered buns so that the sugar coats all areas.

You’re done! Surprise someone special with these delicious sugar buns (and sneak one for yourself).

*Tip: Check the expiration date of your yeast. If it’s outside the date, the yeast may not rise.

The recipe makes 20 buns, however if you like, you can halve the recipe to make 10.

After an amazing month looking at our dreams and passions, now we’re moving on to something a little more tangible – our physical environment! The spaces we spend our time in – at home, work and in our neighbourhood and community, can have a big impact on our everyday happiness.

Being organised in all things helps reduce stress and brings a greater sense of clarity and calm – which for me is an important part of feeling happy. The benefits of organisation are something we feel so passionately about at kikki.K – it’s why we offer so many solutions to organise all aspects of your life, as well as Organised Workshops. Being organised actually gives you a feeling of freedom and, for me, means I’m more able to embrace opportunities and more productive in all things.

Ask yourself this – is your paperwork organised? Are important documents easy to find? Do you have systems set up for incoming paper – like mail, receipts and bills?

If you answered no to any of them, this week is your week to focus on getting organised and creating easy to follow systems to keep paperwork under control. If you answered yes to all of them, let’s think about how can you improve those systems or if there are new ones you’d like to create.

What organised systems are you going to create or improve this week?

At home I have systems set up for bills, receipts and mail. I’ve been meaning, however, to set up a quick reference file for the children. As they get older and more documents start flowing in for school and appointments and excursions, I need to have one spot to keep all this information. This week I’m going to finally put together that quick reference file with important contacts, numbers and details as well as slips I need to sign, things I need to action for the kids and any other important information I’ll need on hand.
