Stylish Christmas Decoration for your home

Christmas is that time of year when you get to celebrate the year just past with friends and family. Even though it’s the busiest time of year, everyone seems to be in a brighter mood and you can’t help catching the excitement of the nearing Christmas Day. Reflect the celebration through stylish additions in your home.

Here are a few ideas on how to decorate your home with simple style. Let your creativity shine and hand-make inspiring Christmas decorations. Paper Christmas Trees are a gorgeous touch around the home and perfect for the centrepiece on your dining table. See below for instructions on how to make your own.

Paper Christmas Trees

• What you need:
• 2 x Polystyrene cones
• Wrapping paper cutoffs
• Craft glue
• Paint Brush
• Toothpick
• 2 x stickers (preferably with star design)

Method:

• Cut wrapping paper into small rectangle shapes (roughly 1.5cm x 4cm)
• Curl the edges of the paper by rolling around a pencil or pen.
• Paint the top of paper with glue and stick them to the cone working from the base up.
• Layer each strip of paper around the base and then work your way up one row at a time.
• Cut a small half circle from a piece of scrap paper and shape into a cone, glue one edge to hold it together. Place this on top of the tree as its point.
• Place a star sticker onto the top of a toothpick and place one on top of it to make it doublesided. This is your tree topper – stick this into the top of your cone. Then you have your very own paper Christmas Tree. We used Frost Wrapping Paper and stickers from the DIY Sticker Book for a festive touch.

Vintage suitcases are a great way to display beautifully wrapped presents. Place them inside the suitcase and near the Christmas Tree with some vintage touches like glass bottles and sprigs of herbs or greenery.

Tying in with the vintage theme, we placed old wooden crates with treats inside them as a stopping point for guests. Tie a large red ribbon around the box and fill the inside with Christmas Gifts, Goodie Bags or bowls of Christmas lollies. We added some gorgeous hand-made paper roses. Here’s how to make your own..

Paper Roses

What you need:

• A roll of wrapping paper
• A small branch about 1cm thick
• Scissors
• Clear Sticky Tape
• Green florist tape

Method:

• Cut Wrapping Paper into various sized Maple Leaf shapes (about 15 leaves should be enough for one rose)
• Using one of the smallest leaf shapes, place the printed side down and fold the points in loosely. Try not to crease the paper too much as rounded edges look neater.
• Use clear sticky tape to stick the branch approx 2/3 of the way down the leaf
• Roll the wrapping paper from one side to the other around the branch and use sticky tape around the bottom to fix the paper to the branch
• Take a second wrapping paper leaf shape and fold the centre point down. Place the first rolled leaf in the centre, fold down the side points on the second leaf and wrap both sides around.
• Continue to add leaves, rotating the rose as you go to get an even size. Use leaves in order of smallest to largest.
• When you have added all your leaves, pinch the bottoms tightly around the branch and wrap with green florist tape or strong sticky tape. There’s no denying the festive season is upon us, so embrace the cheer in the air and try these gorgeous styling tips to brighten up your home.

Christmas Table Styling

Turn Christmas styling into a super fun endeavour with these gorgeous styling ideas. The dining table is the place where we all congregate to celebrate the day together and enjoy scrumptious treats, so it should shine with Christmas cheer.

We’ve added Christmas touches to our Christmas cake by placing wooden sticks/toothpicks with Christmas symbols on top. These are so easy to make: simply cut out shapes from Wrapping Paper or use stickers from the DIY Sticker Book and glue these to the top of the toothpick. We’ve also used these to decorate delicious gingerbread cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. Recipe available below...yum!

Gingerbread Cupcakes

Ingredients:

• ½ cup Self-Raising Flour

• ½ cup Plain Flour

• ¼ tsp Bicarbonate of Soda

• ½ cup Brown Sugar

• 90g Butter, softened

• 1 Egg

• ¼ cup Milk

• 2 tbsp Golden Syrup

• 1 tsp Ground Ginger

• 1/3 tsp Ground Cinnamon

• ¼ tsp Ground Nutmeg

Method:

1. Preheat oven to 170°C

2. Line a 12 cupcake pan with cupcake papers

3. Sift flour, bicarb soda, ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg into a large bowl

4. Stir in remaining ingredients

5. Using an electric mixer, beat ingredients until combined and the batter lightens in colour (about 3 minutes)

6. Divide the mixture evenly into the cupcake pan and bake for 30 minutes

7. Transfer cupcakes to a wire rack to cool.

8. Ice with a cream cheese icing.

We’ve created gorgeous mini bunting with Gift Wrap and Twine and strung this across two sticks on top of the Christmas cake. Then add finishing touches with Ribbon to the glass dome keeping your delicious creation safe. Place cake stands along the table covered with Wrapping Paper to hold drinks and cupcakes.

Continue the theme with red drinks (cordial for the kids, cocktails for the adults) in sweet glass jars with twine and mini gift tags to write names on so no one loses their drink!

Use an old wooden crate to hold Christmas Goodie Bags with a mixture of stationery treats and baked goodies inside. Decorate the bags with gorgeous Mini Pegs and Stickers and guests will love picking these up on their way out.

Finally we created a stylish Christmas mobile to complete the look. We twirled Ribbon around a wire circle and tied mini glass bottles, Ornaments and Gift Tags to the circle with Ribbon and Twine. Place fresh flowers in the jars and you have a unique and beautiful mobile that will impress all your guests!

DIY Advent Calendar

Delight the creative inside and create your own Christmas Advent Calendar. We've used a Vision Board as our base to pin Ribbon across with hanging Wooden Pegs. Then we've pegged on small gifts in matching Gift Wrap. We've pegged Gift Tags in between gifts on which you can write children's names or inspirational quotes along with Porcelain Ornaments that can be hung on the tree once their date is reached.

Choose varying sizes to create a visual delight. Include wrapped stationery treats such as Sticky Notes, Gel Pens or Pencils, Stamps, Magnets and Bulldog Clips, and of course delicious goodies such as candy canes, cinnamon chocolate or gingerbread cookies. Make paper cones out of Wrapping Paper and fill with boiled lollies and gorgeous items like cute red mushrooms or shells.

Accordion Bow Idea

Have fun turning the scraps of your Wrapping Paper into a sweet little accordion bow to top your present. Take a piece of paper of your choice and trim the side edges with pinking shears or scalloped shears. Fold the piece of paper into an accordion fan shape and fasten in the centre with a piece of MT tape. Pull out the fan into a bow shape and tie to the top of your present with some assorted, colourful ribbons.

Wrapping Decoration Ideas

Use a postage stamp shaped hole punch or pinking shears to cut the scraps of your Wrapping Paper, or sheets from the Sweet Printed Notepad into cute little stamps to adorn your present. Use some rubber stamps (I’ve used some post office like marking stamps) and stamp on top of your present. This way it looks like a cute little parcel. I love the Sweetheart Wooden Stamp Set and the Cute Wooden Stamp Set and these look so sweet stamped all over your presents. Have fun experimenting with different coloured stamp inks.

Original Tag Idea

Glue some of the Sweet Printed Notepad or Graphic Printed Notepad sheets onto a cardboard stock and create your own gift tags by punching out some large circles with a jumbo circle punch. Add a small hole for some ribbon with an eyelet punch or a regular hole punch and finish with assorted cute ribbons. Decorate these to your liking with Stamps and Stickers from the kikki.k Cute Collection. You can also make some more traditional tags by cutting out a tag shape from the Cute Wrapping Paper or the Sweet Printed Notepad. For added effect you could use some of the label stickers from the Cute Sticker Book and stick it on top of your tag. Use an eyelet punch (or a simple hole punch if you don’t have an eyelet punch) to create a hole for your ribbon. Finish by taping the tag onto your present with MT tape.

Handmade Envelope Idea

Make some little handmade envelopes from assorted items from the Cute or Sweet Collections. You could use an envelope template or create your own template by carefully opening and unfolding an existing envelope and then using it to trace the shape of your handmade envelope. Try lining your envelope with brown paper, kitchen wax paper or tissue paper for a luxurious effect. Have fun decorating the front of your envelope with MT tape, cut-out stamp shapes (you can stick the real postage stamps next to these patterned stamps) and stickers from the Sticker Books. It’s also a lot of fun stamping the envelopes with rubber stamps including the ‘to’ and ‘hello’ stamps from the kikki.k Greeting Stamp Set.

Handmade Stationery Letter Paper Idea

You may also like to use scissors or a corner rounder punch to round the corners of sheets from the Sweet Printed Notepad and make your own letter writing stationery. Stamp ‘Hello’ and ‘From’ using the Greeting Stamp Set and a dotted line with the stamp from the Sweethearts Stamp Set. You have a super cute letter paper sheet.

Use the super cute Botaniska Adhesive Note Set to decorate your present. Use some tape glue to stick them to the outside of your gift.

Sticker Book Decoration Idea

Use the Botaniska Sticker Book to adorn your present. Here I’ve used the corner stickers, a border sticker and a cute label sticker to decorate the top of the present.

MT tape Decoration Idea

Using some MT tape or the Botaniska Sticker Book, mask off some cute corner details on the top of your presents. Top your present with some vintage fabric and embroidered trims by tucking them under your ribbon. These little trims can be re-used by your crafty friend.

Make your Own Gift Bag

Using the Botaniska Wrapping Paper, make your own paper gift carry bag following my tutorial as seen in the new ‘State of Craft’ book.

Original Wrapping Paper Idea

I just love the Sketch Wooden Stamp! Teamed with kraft paper and some natural string, it gives your presents a super cute ‘postage package’ style look. Simply stamp in a random pattern at different angles on a sheet of kraft paper. I’ve also added the dotted line stamp from the Sweethearts Stamp Set, and my original Hello Sandwich stamp, but you can add any rubber stamps you like. Have fun cutting some MT tape into triangle shapes to stick on the paper, or use the Sketch Sticker Book. The Sketch Sticker Book is super cute but I also love mixing in stickers from the Love Mail Sticker Book for the added postage package look.

In 2006 kikki.K expanded internationally and we were so excited to introduce kikki.K to more stationery lovers.

Early that year the accent motif of a new design caught my eye. There was something about this butterfly that captured my imagination, so we decided to make it the hero and the Butterfly Collection was in store by Christmas.

We can’t believe it’s been 10 Years since the first kikki.K store opened its doors. Located in Melbourne Central, our first store has since had two renovations and proudly has a loyal following of stationery lovers.

Feeling inspired by my recent trip to Sweden, we introduced our first illustrated characters, Roller Girl and Skater Boy.

These playful designs appealed to the young and young at heart, and brought a sense of childhood stationery love to the workplace. At this time we also introduced our first letter writing sets. Illustrated with simple beads and stripes, they encouraged us to put pen to paper and write to a friend or loved one.

We're Loving Snail Mail My Email

Snail Mail My Email is a collaborative art project that ran from July 15th until August 15th earlier this year. The project was designed to bring people together all over the world with the hope of encouraging appreciation for the lost art form of handwritten letters.

The creative scheme was intended to remind people to slow down and take time out, allowing themselves to be mindful of their own body and that of others whilst connecting with people in an individual and thoughtful way.

The project called for people to email a letter to volunteers who then handwrote it and sent it to the recipient free of charge.

The result saw 234 volunteers write and send 10,547 letters to over 50 countries worldwide. We found out about the project and instantly fell in love with the concept. Lars Wallin Fashion Stories

Lars Wallin, one of Sweden’s leading couture designers, celebrates his 20th Anniversary with an exceptional exhibition held at Sweden’s Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde.

The art museum and former home of Prince Eugen, situated in Djurgården, Stockholm, was built at the beginning of the 20th Century and is the perfect setting to frame Wallin’s gorgeous creations.

There are 150 stunning designs on show including couture dresses, bridal gowns, stage costumes and accessories. The exhibition will also feature Wallin's design sketches so you can follow his incredible design process and marvel in awe as you are made privy to the art of fashion design.

My dad and I have always shared a love for the beach. My fondest childhood memories with my dad are waking up early to walk along the beach finding shells and sea creatures along the way. Ten years later we still enjoy these walks and it always gives us a chance to bond. This Father’s Day I will be getting my dad the Adventures with Dad Memory Book. It will give me a chance to finally put into words (and pictures!) what makes him so special to me. It will be something I hope he’ll look back on for years to come just as I do with our beach memories.

On my days off I like to surprise my dad at his work and take him out to lunch! We’ve been doing this for quite a few years now. I’ll be getting my dad the Brown Leather Travel Wallet for Father’s Day as my parents went to Europe last year and they’ve now caught the travel bug.

As I’m Danish I don’t get to see my dad very often. Saturday In Design took place in Sydney last weekend, over the 19th and 20th August. As part of the design festival Schiavello created a stylish event at their showroom in Surry Hills where visitors gathered to socialise and experience a village of design made up of innovative, distinct rooms. The Media Room, where designers were interviewed, was dressed with kikki.K products. Simple, stylish and contemporary.

After reading Apartamento Magazine, we wondered how on earth we'd survived without it. This beautiful publication showcases authentic interiors and genuine lived in spaces.

The magazine is created by Nacho Alegre, Omar Soa and Albert Folch, writers and photographers working from a small studio in Barcelona, and Marco Velardi, an independent writer based in Milan.

The brilliant thing about Apartamento is that although its content is not dissimilar to many other interior magazines, it gives a different perspective. Nothing is styled, nothing is perfect and nothing is predictable. Everything is quite simply "real". With every photographic journey comes an insightful story, revealing how the spaces we live and work in become a part of our everyday existence and personal experience.

Noma Restaurant in Copenhagen

Noma Restaurant in Copenhagen was recently awarded best restaurant in the world for the second year running on the S.Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants list. These awards are organised by Restaurant Magazine and is regarded as the leading barometer of international food trends.

The menu consist of an update on the traditional Nordic kitchen using fresh and clean ingredients.  The beautiful interior is also worth noting, designed by Danish architects Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard Rützou from Space.

Kay Bojesen’s Wooden Dog

We're loving Kay Bojesen’s Wooden dog.

Kay Bojesen (1886–1958) began his career as a silversmith apprentice at Georg Jensen. After a few years of travelling and working around Europe, he worked as a silversmith in Copenhagen. 

In the 1930's he started working with wood, and his signature wooden animal figures have made him one of the great pioneers of Danish Design.

Stockholm's Bio Rio Cinema

One of Sweden's oldest cinemas Bio Rio was re-vamped in 2008, and transformed into a functional and beautiful space - possibly our favourite cinema ever!

The cinema hails from the 1940's, the interior and identity was created by design bureau 1:2:3 - who managed to maintain the old flair whilst creating this new and stunning contemporary place.

We highly recommend a visit!

We are loving the simple and stunning glass works by Ingegerd Raman, one of Sweden’s most renowned designers of glass. She designs beautiful pieces for the Orrefors Glassworks. Her signature is simple and functional design for every day use. 

Raman has won the Excellent Swedish Design Award 17 times. A Swedish Design Icon.

Design District Helsinki

The city of Helsinki, situated in Finland, is a great place to get to know design.

 The Finns are renowned for their innovative Scandinavian design, and Design District Helsinki is a area that has been mapped out in order to guide through the most interesting, new, classic and exciting design.

 The Design District is described as a "neighborhood and a state of mind".  Every antique shop, design boutique, art gallery and fashion label is located in the centre of the city, and each participating member has a distinctive Design District Helsinki sticker on their shop-front windows.  These places are easy to find and you will need at least a few days to get through all of the amazing places.

You can grab a map (you'll need it) at any information centre or any of the participating shops, and then prepare yourself to make your way though the 25 streets and 190 spots!

Experience the creativity, design, uniqueness and Finnish city culture via this great concept.

Travel Wish List

If you are ever visiting Japan, make sure you go out of your way to visit the tiny island of Naoshima.

Naoshima is a tiny island located in the Seto inland sea of Japan. It is known for its contemporary art – in fact, apart from the locals, that is just about all that is there! The island features 3 museums within the beautiful mountainous landscape; Benesse House Museum, Chichu Art Museum and the newest one, the Lee Ufan Museum.

To compliment these museums, Naoshima houses dozens of sculptures randomly throughout the island. Perhaps the most memorable one was a giant yellow pumpkin, by artist Yayoi Kusama, situated on an old wharf heading out to sea. Another art project by the island is the Art Museum Project – in which old empty houses are transformed into works of art.

If you are not satisfied with just a day trip, you can also stay at the Benesse House Museum. You can choose a room from one of the four distinct styles which are decorated with original works of art.

This island is off the beaten track and accessible by boat but with all the inspiring artwork on this island, it is definitely worth the effort.

Globe Hope - "Fabric Redefined"

Globe Hope is a Finnish fashion and accessories brand dedicated to environmental sustainability.

Founder Seija Lukkala created her dream when starting Globe Hope in 2001. After waking up one morning and realizing she needed to do something about the excess waste of textiles and materials in the world, the idea of recycled fashion was born.

Beginning in the small town of Nummela, about 45kms from Helsinki city, the Globe Hope brand began its humble beginnings by gathering unwanted and recycled materials, and transforming them into wearable clothing and accessories.

Some classic products include Winter Jackets made from Finnish Army sleeping bags, Bags made from Swedish Navy Sacks, and one-of-a-kind purses made from vintage fabrics.

Globe Hope are still based in Nummela, and continue to produce original, unique pieces - now covering all products from fashion to homeware. 

The company is more like a family, and continue to produce ethical, ecological and environmental things - these are the values that define the company.

In 5 Minutes with The Bedroom Window Project

What do you see when you look out your bedroom window? This is the question James Coyne is posing to us via The Bedroom Window Project.

Inspired by the kikki.K 365 Days Journal, James came up with the idea to gather bedroom views from around the world with the ultimate aim of raising funds for victims of domestic violence.  Here’s a little more about James’ project and some of his favourite bedroom shots so far.

Where did the idea for The Bedroom Window Project originate?
Originally I had a copy of kikki.K's 365 Journal given to me, and at first it was used to jot down my daily thoughts and ideas. I remember thinking at the time how I would love to do something bigger than myself and hopefully do something of note. I woke up in the middle of the night and the idea hit me. Growing up I would always look out the window and wish I was somewhere else. Discussing this with various people, I found this was a common thing, it seemed to resonate with people.

How has the kikki.K 365 Journal help with the Project?
Well the whole foundation is based on the layout of the Journal. Each day a photo is placed in the Journal until it's full. Without the Journal guiding and inspiring us, nothing would be possible.

We’re guessing you’re going to receive more than 365 photos – will you post them all?
We certainly hope so. Every photo sent into us will be placed on our tumblr site so no one misses out. From there we will select the 365. The final product will be put together and we hope to raise funds for victims of domestic violence not only in Australia but worldwide.

What have been some of the biggest surprises you’ve encountered since starting the project?
Probably how hard it was at first to gain people's trust. As we are primally based on Twitter, getting people to contribute early on was difficult. I could totally understand though people thinking 'who are these people tweeting us for shots of our bedroom?!!' But as more people 'followed' us,checked our site and contributed, it became easier and we are started to gather momentum. I get surprised with every photo I see. Each is so individualistic and I often catch myself saying "oh wow!"

Anything else you’d like to tell us about the project?
It's important to note that we aren't after the glamour landscape shots of the ocean etc. The view of a brick wall is equally important and empowering to us. Everyone sees different things and that's why we try harness the escapism of it all. If someone can get lost in the Journal by looking at the Project for five minutes then we have succeeded as well as raising much needed funds and awareness for a very important cause.

Dress Off Dress On....a fashion swap for the environmentally conscious

Fashion swap instead of buying... for the environment.

What started as an informal get together in Jennie Johansson's Stockholm living room, where a group of friends swapped unwanted items in thier wardrobe amongst themselves, has now five years on, become a large scale public event attracting media attention and hundreds of attendants.

The idea of doing something creative that involved recycling and making a statement against consumerism gone wild, struck a chord with founders Jennie Johansson and Ida Lithell.

After getting positive feedback from friends and word-of-mouth started to generate on their first fashion swap, the ladies were offered a bigger venue in the centre of Stockholm.

Today Dress Off Dress On cooperates with environmentally conscious fashion brands such as Bellaobastian and Revery Sthlm.  Other event partners include Fashionplay.org, the Swedish Greens and Climate action.

Saturday Indesign Singapore

The 21st of May marked the inaugural Singapore Saturday in Design Event.

Started in Sydney in 2003, the annual trade event is a highlight in the design industry, taking place on alternative years in Sydney and Melbourne. Saturday in Design has traditionally been an opportunity for local and international brands to launch their latest products and collections to thousands of members of the design community.

As an Official Event Partner of Saturday in Design Singapore we were lucky enough to work with the lovely and talented team from Dream Interiors to create an impressive installation of kikki.K products, for their Saturday in Design Exhibit.

What was created was a visually stunning white and grey installment of Dream Interiors designer furniture, accented by an array of kikki.K white and grey Storage Boxes, Magazine Holders and Peek-A-Boo Baskets.

With thousands of registrants and over 19 different exhibit showrooms, the debut Saturday in Design Singapore was truly a remarkable success. The event was a milestone for Singapore’s design industry and a celebration of innovative ideas and creativity.

2011 Singapore Audi Fashion Festival

This time of the year brings about the blossoming of the white tents in the heart of Singapore’s bustling Orchard Road, signifying the return of the Audi Fashion Festival.

This year’s festival had fashion shows, industry events, trade shows and parties spread out over 7 days.

The festival opened with luxury Italian fashion label Missoni, world renowned for their vibrantly coloured knitwear and closed with French fashion house Emanuel Ungaro. Both the Missoni family as well as Ungaro’s creative director flew in to take the final bow.

As the Official Fashion Stationery for the festival, we styled both the reception counters as well as the media lounge with an array of delicious stationery.

Guests were also treated to our Limited Edition Fashion Planner, to help them plan their stylish outfits for the shows.

With over 12,000 attendees from all over the world, including celebrities such as London based fashion blogger, Susie Bubble, I’m sure we will all be waiting with baited breath to see what the Audi Fashion Festival 2012 has in store for us.

Little Sapling Toys

What could be cuter than wooden toys shaped like animals and traditional builiding blocks that are eco-friendly and organic?

Little Sapling Toys is run from an online store on Etsy, by husband and wife team, Nick and Kimber, who started the company in 2008.

Growing rapidly LST is now the top selling toy shop on Etsy, a fair accolade for a company just 3 years old. With a family of their own they wanted to create toys that "help young children develop creativity, pattern recognition and fine motor skills."

Each toy is handmade in a workshop in Minnesota, using FSC Certified hardwoods, recycled content packaging and for every toy sold they promise to plant a tree.

We are loving these gorgeous toys that are not only safe and eco-friendly but they also looks amazing on your bookshelf or coffee table!

We're in love with Oiti

Brazilian architect come designer Patricia Naves drew inspiration from Scandinavian design to start her homewares label Oiti.

The brand's mission is to create products in line with her vision that "design and architecture are tools to make life better, not being committed to trends or fashion."

The products have a cheeky undercurrent with Naves clearly having a unique sense of humor; products ranging from drink coasters in the shape of slices of bread to brightly coloured stools that look like cookie cutters. One of the products on our personal wish list are the shelving units made out of recycled newspaper.

Oiti have even delved into jewellery with a reminder ring made out of gold resembling a piece of string wrapped around your finger, too cute!

We love the quirkiness of her products and the colourful, bold colour palette.

B.A.R.

B.A.R. BLASIEHOLMENS AKVARIUM o RESTAURANG

If you’re a seafood fan, B.A.R. situated in the heart of Stockholm, will have your fist pumping the air with enthusiasm. B.A.R. is the third restaurant directed by two of Sweden’s award winning culinary visionaries Henrik Norström and Peter Johansson.

What makes this restaurant so special is the variety in which seafood is presented and offered to guests. Guests can choose from a fresh seafood smorgasbord (similar to a mini market stall within a restaurant – genius) and select how they want their seafood cooked and in what order.

There is an abundance of delicious side dishes perfectly tailored to suit everything on offer but don’t go past the roasted tomatoes and baked sweet corn cobs or the bowl of shrimp severed with lemon and aioli as they are too good to pass up. A number of delicious seafood dishes can be selected directly from the menu, such as the B.A.R. fish and seafood stew made with fresh seafood stock, tomato, fennel and garlic – a scrumptuous dish for a typically chilly Stockholm night.

Don’t be disheartened by the small aquarium showcasing the fish on offer.  Visually, it adds a sense of tranquillity to the atmosphere.  The interior is remarkably inviting with soft grey/green tones forming a base from floor to ceiling followed by birch touches and black exposed lighting. The restaurants configuration flawlessly allows guests to comfortably sit at the bar, whether it be for dinner or after work drinks, whilst those wishing to indulge in a lengthy group dinner need not worry about the rowdy after work crowd as most tables are somewhat separated.

If you’re lacking in love for seafood, don’t fret, as there are equally delicious meat and vegetarian options to choose from. And for those not wishing to join the queue at the front door, there is also a takeaway menu.

kikki.K Easter Egg Hunt

When compared to Christmas, Easter seems to always take the back seat. But why?

Easter is a wonderful excuse to get together with family and friends, enjoy a scrumptious feast, drink some wine, have a laugh and most importantly take part in an Easter Egg Hunt. As much as we all love chocolate, Easter Egg Hunts don't always have to consist of chocolate eggs. RESTAURANT DANSK

Hidden away on Level 3 of 428 Little Bourke Street, is the gorgeous restaurant Dansk.

This traditional Danish bistro is situated in a beautiful red-brick warehouse. There are stunning retractable glass screens that have Copenhagen city scapes printed on them, reminding you of the restrurants roots.

Chef Bente Grysbaek works her magic creating Nordic food, made from seasonal produce that is sourced locally. You must try the Danish Meatballs and the Dansk platter, if you would prefer to sample a little bit of everything; prawns, terrines, cured meats and pate.

There is also a delightful selection of desserts to try and Danish beers to make the whole experience even more authentic.

We have a huge creative crush on illustrator Kate Bingaman. We especially love her amazing book Obsessive Consumption: What did you buy today? which was released in April, 2010.

Kate lives in Portland, Oregon where she works as an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Portland State University. She also spends her time working on zines, pillows, dresses, drawings and paper chains; whilst illustrating for Target, IDEO, Madewell, Readymade, and Newsweek. Podium 1 - Paris

Some retail stores need to be seen to be believed, and Podium 1, a Moscow born jewellery store specialising in one of a kind pieces, is one of these stores.

The concept rests with creating pieces lovingly crafted from hours of manual labour using mostly ancient or rare techniques.

It is always hard to find a straight forward yet inspiring book on cocktails, until now. Vintage Cocktails is a gorgeous book by Brian Van Flandern, a Michelin three-star mixologist, internationally renowned for his use of exotic ingredients and extraordinary creations.

Vintage Cocktails demonstrates that not all great cocktails are difficult; in fact the trick lies in the pour. There are some recipes that require a number of obscure ingredients, although the simplicity behind the assembly makes most creations fairly inexpensive and astonishingly delicious. Beci Orpin

It’s often hard to describe someone who inspires you, and even harder to put your finger on why they do. It’s something tangible but indescribable. You’ll have their work pasted on your walls, you’ll sight their names in conversations about creative people, you will probably know their history and have followed their career somewhat.

At kikki.K we believe in the importance of finding inspiration everyday so that we can continue to design the products we love. It isn’t always defined as a designer or illustrator and more often than not, it is something completely removed from the world of design, like a band, a poem or a place.

Beci Orpin is one of these sources, she isn’t just an amazing illustrator she is a graphic designer, an artist, a fashion designer, the director of a company and fashion label, a blogger and also a mother. Where on earth she finds time to do all these things, still amazes us.

Based in Melbourne, Orpin has produced clothing under the ‘Princess Tina’ label as well as the new children’s label ‘Tiny Mammoth’ she has exhibited both nationally and internationally and continues to draw and design on a daily basis. The breadth of Orpin’s work really has no end or boundary, creating quirky and unique identities, illustrating for magazines as well as designing websites for restaurants and bars. She has lent her bright folky style to Mambo, Tourism Victoria, Allen & Unwin and a multitude of Australian fashion labels.

Plate of Health

We’re enjoying a delicious Plate of Health. This simple yet scrumptious dish is something we discovered a while back in Stockholm.

Swedish bakeries and cafes typically offer variations of Plate of Health which is fantastic as usually cakes, pies and sandwiches dominate the menu. We don’t really know where the Plate of Health originated but we don’t care because it's not only healthy but delicious!

A Plate of Health can consist of anything, as long as it is healthy. Make sure you divide it perfectly so you get enough of everything.

We recommend corn, lettuce, tomato, avocado, cucumber, peanut sauce, brown rice and shrimp. The idea is to eat it separately so you can discover which ingredients compliment each other, but if you wish to combine everything together you can do that too.

We're Loving... Scandinavian Music: The Dø

We all love Scandinavian music here at kikki.K, and the next group we'd like to feature is a spunky Finnish/French duo called The Dø ("Dø" is pronounced like the word "dough", and is derived and inspired from first note of the scale in C: Do-Re-Mi....etc.).

This fun and energetic duo are Olivia Bouyssou-Merilahti (singer & musician) and Dan Levy (multi-instrumentalist). They play & perform with an assortment of drummers and other musicians but it is Olivia and Dan that form the foundations of the group.

Their first album, A Mouthful (2008), is described as an ecclectic record, drawing inspiration from a number of musical genres.

Their sound is unique, combining sounds from pop, rock, folk and hip-hop. Olivia's voice is beautiful and captivating, leaving you wanting more.

The Dø have just released a new E.P. titled Dust It Off - check it out on their website. It surely won't disappoint, as their sound evolves and grows to the next level.

What Inspires You?

Last week was the 2011 L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival. We were thrilled to celebrate our ongoing relationship with the Festival as their Official Stationery Partner.

As part of our partnership we set up a collaborative Inspiration Board at the Official LMFF Bar located at Central Pier.

Attendees were encouraged to write down what they are inspired by on a note card, and then pin it to the corresponding number on the board. We were pleased to see lots of ‘inspiration’ being added throughout the week. The entries varied from style icons, fashion labels, significant people, inspirational quotes and life philosophies, illustrating that inspiration comes in many forms.

Some of our favourites include “Cards that get me thinking about my inspirations”, “Individual directional style, especially if it’s home grown” and a quote from Coco Chanel “Fashion fades only style remain the same.”

With over 200 entries we had trouble picking the winning response. We are pleased to announce that the winning entry was “What may be in store for me tomorrow”. Congratulations to Lisa Quittner who has won herself a $500 kikki.K stationery wardrobe.

Axel's 2nd Birthday

Kristina’s (founder of kikki.K) son Axel just celebrated his 3rd Birthday, which reminded us about the amazing party he had for his 2nd Birthday.

Sweet Hearts Dessert Table

We were truly amazed by Leoni Jena’s gorgeous Sweet Hearts inspired dessert table which featured in her ‘Just call me Martha’ Blog.

Leoni used cards, wrapping paper and stickers from our Sweet Hearts range to create a gift from the heart for her husband for Valentine’s Day.

We loved the use envelopes as a backdrop to her dessert table, inspired by one of Cheree Berry’s shows for Kate Spade. This added a cute personal touch to her Valentine’s gift, as when she first started seeing her husband they wrote love letters to each other whilst he was at sea.

The cake was inspired by the heart bunting pattern on our Sweet Hearts Wrapping Paper and the heart pattern found on our Sweet Hearts Greeting Cards. Leoni used a clay extruder to create the red "string" and edible paper to create the hearts.

She used the Sweet Hearts Sticker Book to create labels for the desserts, cookies, cupcake toppers and flags for the drinks. And we just adore her use of our Mini Note Cards and Mini Heart Pegs.

Her delicious spread of mini raspberry trifles, mini cheesecake bites, raspberry and coconut mini cupcakes, chocolate hearts and love letter cookies– almost look too good to eat!

A Source of Inspiration

We are always on the hunt for something inspiring to conjure up new ideas in the office.

Anne Black is a wonderful source of inspiration. Black is a Danish artist working predominately with porcelain. She follows the design aesthetics inherent in Scandinavian design. Clean and classic design that function flawlessly, the same principles we follow here at kikki.K.

Her collection features beautiful vases, gorgeous mugs and matching table settings adorned with sweet floral patterns and soft pastel tones.

Black has extended her floral theme across her range of jewellery which includes earrings, ear pins, bracelets, brooches and necklaces. One of her latest collections, entitled ‘love is all you need,’ is a cute ensemble of pieces perfect for your sweet heart.

We’re all about promoting healthy eating here at kikki.K but we have to admit that we do have a small soft spot for tasty treats, and the 'Happy Pills' store definitely hits that spot.

Eva & Erik: Our Sweet Hearts

Eva has received a mysterious invitation from her lover Erik.  We join her on the trail to his heart.

Inspired by our gorgeous new Sweet Hearts collection for Valentine’s Day 2011, we wanted to bring a little romance from the range to life. Shot in a beautiful State Park on a gorgeously sunny day, we used a range of goodies from the collection to create a trail of handwritten love notes from Erik. The iconic white kikki.K box held the final secret, uniting our lovers.

Behind the Scenes...

Film student Freya Esders was chosen to direct this film of young love. Freya’s aesthetic beautifully complements the kikki.K brand, using dappled light and lush green surrounds to visually delight viewers. Enthusiastic and easy going William Storr was our director of photography. He shot ‘Sweet Hearts’ on a Canon 5D which has perfect cinematic quality for our love story.

Our gorgeous Eva is model, Rhia Taranto and spunky Erik is musician Max Turner. Max plays six instruments and also wrote and performed the soundtrack for the film. Bushwalkers on the trail also came upon Erik’s love notes adding a surprising dimension to their nature discovery! And while the video shoot was hardly a tough day at the office, we did have slight envy for the kids on school holidays rafting down the sun soaked river.

Santa's Stylish Study

We must confess there's nothing we love more than a stylish, creative, workspace. So when we received an email from the gorgeous Alanna Searle with pictures of her creation "Santa's Stylish Study" we naturally went a little crazy!

"I wanted to create a stylish yet rustic workspace for Santa. The idea was to create a space with affordable furniture pieces and stationery that are functional yet beautiful also. To create this look I tried to mix older pieces with the new. The white, rustic cane shelving, cane nest of tables and the mid century style stool, were all sourced from Ebay. I love how the paint is peeling and the cane is starting to unravel, they are definitely well loved, and well used pieces!"

"The gorgeous white and kraft colored boxes/folders are of course, kikki.K! These are a great way to organise a space. I used them here to create different heights and add interest to the design. The amazing red typewriter is a vintage Olivetti Valentine."

"It was important for us to use local suppliers and local produce wherever possible so the amazing 4 tier cake (vanilla sponge with fresh cream and strawberries), fondant cupcakes and cake pops were all made by Belinda Harley of "Sweet Treats Cakes and Cupcakes". The cake topper made from bamboo skewers, red/white bakers twine and crochet doilies was made by me"

"The "calendar" cookies and shortbread buttons were made by Janet of "The Cupcake Lady". The "letter to Santa" cookies were made by Denin of "Spoon and Fork Cookies", I think these were my favorite element of the design!"

I sourced the bamboo cutlery and bamboo eco plates from "Emerald + Ella". Again, the natural color of the bamboo worked perfectly with our color theme and it was nice to use something a little different from the usual white platters.

We're Loving Toolz

A gorgeous little Japanese clothing and gift store located in Melbourne.

We love it because it sells everything from clothing, shoes, scarves, candles and jewellery in the most luxurious yet simple fabrics and materials, for both Men and Women.

Almost all of the clothing is designed and made in South Korea and Japan and the range captures the essence of contemporary fashion currently taking place in these two countries. You will find unusual shapes, soft colours and beautiful textures that can easily be applied to any wardrobe.

Jae and Kayoko, founders and owners of Toolz, were committed to creating a retail space where customers could shop comfortably whilst still being inspired. The sole purpose of their business idea was to cater to a wide audience by providing clothing and accessories that fit everyone; “I still remember grumbling about the difficulty I was having when buying clothes in my style and size when I first came to Melbourne about 10 years ago. The only chance I had to buy the clothes I liked was when I went back to Japan to visit my family” says Kayoko, “and then one day I went shopping in Seoul and I found an abundance of clothing that I loved and that was it, that night I couldn’t sleep because all I could think about was how I could design and manufacture this style and bring it to Melbourne!”

Toolz have been open for almost 3 years, and Kayoko’s husband Jae not long ago gave up he’s career as an engineer to assist he’s wife with their growing business,  “The decision wasn't easy for me to switch my career over to the fashion industry, but we now have a clear and solid direction for our future business and we love it”.

The sound of a whistling kettle in the morning and knowing that my daughter is in the kitchen making me a pot of coffee, that's love.

A guilty pleasure of mine..
Almost too embarrassing to admit, bad crime shows on the TV get me every time.

A moment that changed my life..
My good friend’s 33rd birthday where I met some incredible people. The invitation remains stuck on every fridge in every house I have ever lived in since that night.....

Sundays are for..
A mix of Papier Mache, markets, house chores, washing 1,000 loads of dishes from my childrens ‘attempts’ at baking and buying flowers (which compensates for all the rest).

Stationery item I couldn’t live without...
Notebook after notebook after notebook.  Mine are all titled, I’ve got issues  ..1..2..3..4 etc. If Papier Mache was as easy as scribbling and pasting into notebooks we’d be up to number 500!
