Tools for Tax Time

Tools for Tax Time

Every year tax time sneaks up on us when we least expect. However, it is possible to avoid tax time tantrums.

Follow these tips and head into the new financial year in organised style.

1. Create an 'inbox' where you collect all your incoming documents such as bills, receipts, bank account statements etc. This inbox can be a Storage Box, Magazine Holder, 5 Tab Pocket or similar.

2. Dedicate one day per week when you sit down and sort through the paperwork. Keep some Finance Sticky Notes nearby and label each document 'to action' or 'to file'.

3. Start with the 'action' documents. These require immediate attention, such as bills to pay, claims to make and invitations to reply to.

4. Examine the remaining documents and decide if they should be kept on file. If not, be ruthless and throw them out. Unnecessary documents lead to unnecessary stress.

5. Establishing a filing system that works for you is important early on. Ensure that you have an appropriate home for each document. Use tools such as the Tax Solution including the Receipt Book, Finance Sticky Notes and My Bills Organiser to help create an orderly system. The refillable Receipt Organiser and ...

How to Work From Home

How to Work From Home

Working from home can sometimes be tricky. How do you make the best of your work time and stay productive when family and friends are knocking on the door trying to get your attention?

1. Make yourself comfortable by creating an inspiring workspace. Both colour and furniture can affect the way you feel and think. Figure out what works best for you and your home office.

2. Keep work and private life separate. Avoid unloading the dishwasher while ‘at work’, but also remember not to check your emails while engaging in family activities. Be productive at work by focusing on just that, and if friends or family want to drop by for a chat: why not meet for lunch at the café around the corner, or for a coffee after work?

3. Plan your day. The benefit of working from home is the opportunity to plan your time. With help from a Weekly Planner Pad, To Do List or other Calendar/Planner, you can list your daily tasks and plan how and when to finish them. A visual overview will help calm your mind.

4. When in the routine of how to plan your time, make sure you have the ...
