Tax time each year can be a challenging time, trying to gather receipts and other documents related to the tax return.
Here are a few tips on how to avoid the tax time tantrums so you can stay calm and in control all year round.
STEP 1 Create an ‘inbox’ where you collect all your incoming documents such as bills, receipts, bank account statements etc. This inbox can be a Storage Box, Magazine Holder, 5 Tab Pocket or similar.
STEP 2 Pick one or a couple of days a week when you sit down with your inbox and sort through the paperwork. Keep Finance Adhesive Notes near by and label each document – To Action, To File and so forth.
STEP 3 Start with 'To Action' documents. These are ones that need your immediate action, such as bills to pay and claims to make.
STEP 4 Determine whether the remaining papers in your inbox are to keep and file or to move on to the recycle bin/garbage.
STEP 5 Filing. When you start the filing process, make sure that you have an appropriate ‘home’ for each and every document using: Receipt Book, My Bills Organiser, Ring Binder or Lever Arch with Divider Tabs easy!.
